Ferdinand Magellan was motivated to set sail and circumnavigate the world because he was in search for a route to Spice Islands, also known today as Maluku Islands located in Indonesia.
He was determined to find the route to the islands as in the olden days, spices were rare, and were considered precious as it was only found in most parts of Asia.
